Experience the power of total mindfulness and get some balance back to your busy life at our Cairns Mindfulness Retreat, themed Eat Meditate Elevate Retreat, which will take place at the beautiful Thala Beach Resort.

The setting for this mindfulness retreat is a private property and nature reserve in the secluded forests north of Cairns. Stay in exotic eco-bungalows surrounded by native forest with some vistas overlooking the Coral Sea. Enjoy nature walks on the property, amazing views of the mountains and sea and access to the resort’s beautiful private beach. Wake up to the sound of nature and prepare for a day of self-care, yoga and nurture.

The daily yoga and mindfulness practice will focus on how to be fully in the present moment and experience all the subtleties that arise.

Our Cairns Mindfulness Retreat is designed to guide an absolute beginner, step-by-step into the practice. The approach being unique and life-applicable will also help broaden the foundations of the experienced practitioner, systematically unfolding for both the multitude of benefits from Mindfulness practice.

Your stay at Thala Beach Resort will allow for plenty of downtime, long walks on the beach, a swim in the ocean or one of the pools to bask in the natural beauty and integrate the inner work.

In addition to the mindfulness and yoga we will take part in a Southeast Asian-style cooking class. Learn how to make a selection of Asian-inspired dishes, under the watchful eye of a professional chef, where your culinary skills will be enhanced and your taste buds satisfied with what you create.

CAIRNS MINDFULNESS RETREAT PROGRAM

Welcome to our Cairns Mindfulness & Yoga Retreat.

Arrive at Thala Beach Resort for a 2pm check – in. Settle in, get to know your host. Relax and explore the resort or have a swim in the pool.

4.00pm – 6.00pm: Start with the introduction into mindfulness practice and enjoy your first yoga session combined with breathing exercises and meditation.

7.00pm – Enjoy a welcome dinner get to know your yoga/mindfulness facilitator and other participants. Exchange the experiences of the day.

7.00am – 8.30am: Start the day with gentle yoga and meditation to awaken your body, followed by breakfast.

10.00am – 1.00pm: Free time to enjoy the nature reserve, the beach or pool.

1.30pm – 2.30pm: Afternoon Mindfulness practice.

3.00pm: Depart for our Thai inspired cooking class that commences at 3.30pm, followed by a delicious dinner and social time.

7.30pm: Return to Thala Beach Resort and rest.

7.00am – 8.30am: The last morning of our Mindfulness Retreat begins with gentle flow yoga and a half-hour mindfulness practice session followed by breakfast.

10.00am: Check out after breakfast and enjoy free time at the beautiful Thala Beach Resort

  • Retreat requires min. 4 persons booked

  • Prior basic yoga awareness/ experience recommended

  • During free time guests are invited to enjoy nature/wildlife walks on this beautiful private property or along the beach, swim in the pool or in the ocean during the winter months.
  • Guests staying at Thala Beach Resort are offered free tours which can be arranged at the reception. Experience days of operation vary week-to-week.

The Thala night sky is free from light pollution and filled with millions of stars. Surrounded by sounds of the rainforest & ocean – enjoy an introduction to the beautiful Southern Constellations from an experienced & passionate guide (subject to operation).

Mindfulness & Yoga: Han Wee Tan

Having always had a keen interest in philosophy and the esoteric, Han underwent teacher training with a yoga ashram for 2 years before living in that ashram for another two and a half years, developing himself individually and as a teacher. He delivered numerous courses, workshops and retreats during his time there and, most notably, had been teaching and coordinating the ashram’s teacher training program.
The ashram drew many like-minded people to it, providing Han with the opportunity to meet and learn from many other acclaimed meditation teachers. These interactions would lead to a deepened understanding of the science behind mindfulness along with the various techniques applied. He has since developed and delivered a multitude of Mindfulness workshops and courses in Australia for a wide range of participants along with specialised workshops to allied health and mental health professionals. Mindfulness has become such an important and beneficial way of life for him and is something he continues to share passionately with others for their wellbeing. His approach to the practices are light-hearted and is known for his capacity to deliver complex concepts in an accessible manner. For him, the practices are a way of thinking and living rather than just a band aid for life.

Enjoy a fun interactive cooking class in our open plan home – a spacious kitchen surrounded by lush gardens where we grow as many organic ingredients as we can to use in the kitchen. Paw Paw, kaffir lime, thai coriander, eggplant, tomatoes, lemon grass, basil, mint are some of our crops and all included in our menu today.

The cooking experience is not only about learning how to be mindful of what we cook and eat, but also learning about the abundance of produce that Tropical North Queensland has to offer and how much fun it can be to grow and cook your own food.

From AUD 2300 per person

Price includes:

  • 2 nights accommodation at Thala Beach in Jungle Walk bungalow (Twin-share basis)
  • Meals: 2 x breakfast, 2 x dinner
  • Daily mindfulness, yoga and meditation sessions
  • Interactive Thai-style cooking class
  • Organisation and coordination of the retreat

 Price does not include:

  • Transport to/ from Thala Beach Nature Reserve from Cairns or Port Douglas (car pooling may be an option)
  • Costs of personal nature (drinks, extras, optional activities)
  • Reiki sessions (available on request for $50/ 45-minute sessions)
  • Additional nights accommodation pre/ post retreat (we can arrange this)

Payment & Cancellation:

  • 50% deposit required at the time of booking to secure place. $250 of this deposit is non-refundable.
  • Full payment must be made no later than 21 days before the retreat start date.
  • No refunds inside 21 days of retreat commencement
  • Cancellations made within 21 – 30 days of retreat start date will incur a 50% cancellation fee of total price.
  • Cancellations made outside of 30 days will receive a full refund minus $250 which is non-refundable.
  • Full payment required if booking inside 21 days of retreat start date.
  • No shows will incur 100% cancellation fee.
  • COVID POLICY: If we cannot run tours due to Queensland Government mandates, lockdowns or restrictions a full refund will be provided. If however you or another member of your group cannot participate due to illness or self-isolation the standard cancellation policy will apply.
